Oxford, NC Historic Preservation Commission
Stewardship Award Policy
Stewardship Award
The Oxford Historic Preservation Committee (HPC) each year recognizes a property owner who has demonstrated exemplary stewardship of Oxford's historical, architectural, archaeological or cultural heritage. The award will be given each year based on the significance of a completed historic restoration and/or historic preservation activity to the Oxford Historic Districts as a whole.
Eligibility for Stewardship Award
Eligible projects may involve comprehensive work to restore a historic building, structure or site, which will require a Certificate of Appropriateness and therefore are automatically considered for the award. Substantial maintenance projects, such as painting or re-roofing, also demonstrate a commitment to stewardship; however, because these projects do not require a COA, the property owner must request consideration for the award by notifying the HPC before the project is started.
Stewardship Award Criteria
Award
The award will be announced by the HPC in early May of each year to coincide with National Historic Preservation Month. The award decision will be solely the responsibility of the HPC.
